DEATH WAYS

03/02/2013
Afternoon
230PM

I was with sri Srinivas garu and Suresh Garu. After completing lunch we are headed towards an important work. Srinivas garu is backing up  his swift with proper signalling. As we are slowly turning towards  the road we noticed a car(Indica)  approaching us  with a great speed. There was a bus adjacent to it. It overtook the bus and headed towards us. Despite horn and signalling he neither reduced speed nor changed direction. In the last minute he took a curvaceous turn and dashed of across us. With a sigh of relief we started of towards our destination.

Looking back i can only thank our gods for nothing being happened there.

Right at this point three people close to me are going through their tough times.
*My aunt was crossing the road at R&B junction and a car struck her resulting in serious pelvis injury . She is battling with life in the NRI hospital vizag since jan 21 and gods know when her painful ordeal ends and she will start living her "new changed life"
*My cousin   brother was hit by a motor cycle while he was standing on the road which resulted in two fractures near the shoulder
*My best friends father was roughly pulled over with the bus while he was boarding the bus (the driver failed to notice) which resulted in a serious leg injury. His leg was removed.
AND YESTERDAY HE LOST HIS BATTLE AT 400PM AND FINALLY SUCCUMBED TO DEATH.

I need not tell the people who read this blog about the conditions of our  roads. I also need not clarify about the haphazard movement of people and vehicles on roads. Even i need not tell about any thing about the way we manage our functions on roads..What i want to convey today is what happen to a family after an unexpected mishap they never foresee.

yes..this is my hand .
i met with a major accident in April 2010. An auto driver's recklessness changed my life forever. Two operations  and a lot of prayers finally left the hand in this shape. I lost my hand's straightness with no mistake of mine. And I am subjected to public sympathy every day which is more tough to bear. And adding spice to injury the Auto d river roams freely and whenever he meets me on road, with a broad grin asks me " cheyee ela undhi sir" (hows your hand)

After this painful chapter  i fought with my life and slowly pulled up the strings to stand strong. But i observed more pathetic cases who suffer silently with no mistake of theirs. I saw people who lost their legs. I saw people who lost their hands. I met families who lost their dear ones . I saw mayhem on roads created by dogs. . Lot of people  are losing limbs hands and lives for mistakes committed by some.

I observed the amount of pain a doctor undergoes in such situations. Apart from medicine and surgery the doctor has to instill confidence and courage to face a new world . And it is not an easy task.

Almost the travelling population have lost the sense of driving. People drive recklessly. They overtake from left. Some travel without paying attention to surroundings. Some indulge in pep talk. Some cross roads abruptly . Some park vehicles in no parking areas. Some turn abruptly.  All these "some" add up to "whole".

Everyday i find a sense of urgency in every ones driving. No one bothers about "safety" Every one wants to get through. All one needs is a gap. A gap to cruise  ahead.  You cannot predict what happens next on Indian roads. This unpredictability  combined with insanity of  "citizens" who break rules create chaos in families who least know that their life is going to change forever.

Why should we allow this to happen?
Cant we stop this nonsense?
And don't blame police. There may be lapses from them. Yet They struggle hard to keep cities in discipline.

If you want to blame blame yourself.  Blame your lethargic non reactant nature for this flood of blood. Since the blood doesn't belong to you you continue with the rest. But "irregularity" has a character. It manifests fast and swallows everyone. Only your time is delayed and there by you are not immune to such brutalities.

Cant we ask a kid who drives recklessly to slow down?
Cant we hand over a alcoholic driver who drives haphazardly on roads  to police?
Cant we ask our co drivers to maintain line discipline ?
CANT WE INSTILL SOME ROAD SENSE IN US AND FOLLOW ROAD RULES?
CANT WE DRIVE SLOW AT JUNCTIONS?
CANT WE WAIT WHEN SOME ONE IS CROSSING THE ROAD?

CANT WE STOP DRIVING ON BAD ROADS AND BRING PRESSURE ON THE AUTHORITIES  TO NOTICE THE PROBLEM?

CANT WE ASK OUR FELLOW RESIDENTS TO TAKE UP THE PROBLEM OF DOGS ON ROADS?
 CANT WE TRY ?

THE ANSWER IS " NO"
BECAUSE WE ARE BUSY
BUSY ORCHESTRATING A FUTURE CHAOS.\

REMEMBER ..,...WE ARE ASSISTING A CRIME....A CRIME BIGGER THAN MURDER.
